Donald Trump made one good call to start the week. Let’s hope he makes a second.
As with most reality shows, I stop watching after the first or second season. The Apprentice is no exception. Trump selecting Joan Rivers as the winner over Annie Duke is no surprise. Trump and Rivers have known each other for decades and let’s be honest; no one outside of poker cares about Annie Duke.
Professional poker players (at least the ones on TV) are tripping over themselves to defend Annie and denounce Rivers for her comments about poker players. While I expect some attention-whores to toss in their two cents, it is disappointing to see someone of the stature of a Doyle Brunson to climb down in the gutter. I love poker and have a lot of respect for those who play and earn a living doing it but it is a selfish profession and says something about society that some of our best and brightest minds would choose it over doing something truly productive for society. Joan’s needles at Annie (who is a Penn grad) are well-placed.
Joan wasn’t as eloquent and I believe, had her fangs out for Annie more so than wanting to take a swipe at poker players in general. But hey, Annie deserves it. At the table, she is a disgusting, belligerent, hygienically-challenged bore. She has berated well-known professionals at and away from the table and most notable, her biggest sin is in not severing her ties with an online site that cheated players out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her continued association with Ultimate Bet is reason alone not to let her actually win a contest that Trump is associated with.
Trump’s next big decision is whether to allow his Miss California, Carrie Perjean, to keep her California crown. I disagree with Perjean’s views on gay marriage but I am equally as concerned by the p.c. crowd wanting to destroy this woman simply because she voices an opinion contrary to what the p.c. thugs believe is the correct side of the issue.
Her crown was as good as gone up until risqué pictures of Miss Rhode Island surfaced late last week. In her pictures, Perjean showed off her backside and was topless. Miss Rhode Island showed off her topside. Both had the naughty bits covered but most observers would agree that if the word ‘racy’ was applied to either picture, Miss Rhode Island would win. And, since officials told Miss Rhode Island her pics were fine, they can’t go after Perjean.
Hopefully, this will be the end of it but somehow I don’t think so.
